Example: MX0 is assigned the value ‘mail.pfphosts.com’. This tells all email messages addressed to your domain to go to your domain’s mail server where you can pick it up. You may have multiple MX records assigned, for example MX10, MX20, andMX30 may also be assigned a mail server. This is a fail-safe measure you can use in the event your default mail server is down. This means if MX0 mailserver is down then your emails will be delivered to the next mail server eg MX20 then MX30 etc. The alternate mail servers store your email messages until your default server is back online. This prevents loss of email messages during your main mail server’s downtime. This is called MX Priority. The lowest numberMX record is the first one attempted for delivery. You only need to modify your MX Records if you host a domain (website) with us and host your email account somewhere else. To do so: Login into your domain control panel: http://www.managethisdomain.com Login with username: domain.com eg pfphosts.com and password as seen from your hosting control panel: http://www.extendcp.com Click on DNS to manage nameservers NOTE: If you make such a change to an IP address outside of the mail server we have setup for you, once the change has been made (which can take upto 24hrs) we are no longer able to support any email issues for your domain as those messages will not go through us and all POP3 boxes with us will not have any messages delivered to them. This will now be the responsibility for your new email server company. In such an event, you can either:1) Reset the MX record to point back to us, in which case once the DNS change has propagated throughout the network, email will start working through us once more, or 2) Verify that you have set the correct IP address for your external mail server and change it accordingly if it is wrong, and also verify the mail server is accepting email on that IP address. Please note that pfpHosts.com can not support external mail servers as they are not inside our network. And please be aware that MX record changes, like all other DNS changes, can take up to 24 hours to propagate around the internet. Was this answer helpful?
